The Best Surfboards for Beginners & Why?

hby Korak Tinoco Nov.11 2020.

Here we will talk about the best surfboards design for beginners and why we recommend them. Our goal for a beginners surfboard its to make everything about surfing as easy as possible for fastest progress. Here, we will talk about the models in chronological order from day-one beginners until we reach an intermediate level of surfing.

THE HUEVOS MODEL

A surfboard specifically design for beginners! This model is a mid-to-long length board, wide with a lot of area and volume in the center of the board.  We recommend anywhere from 6-4 to all the way to 7'9  for beginners. Its design for those taking their first lesson, transitioning from their soft-tops, or still in the process of learning how to catch waves without difficulty. Kids and adults, lightweights and heavyweights its a board anyone can learn on.

Description:

Features a moderately wide continuous curve outline that ends in a nice rounded tail. The rocker is relaxed, the thickness distributed though the whole board, with a simple flat bottom that rolls onto a deep V all the way through the tail. The best part about this board is that it can be ridden in from knee-high surf to well over-head waves.

Why?

We design this board to be as stable and floaty as possible, while bringing the tail in, for performance as you progress. The flat deck of the board make up for a stable-easy paddle. Lighter than other beginner boards, easier to carry and move around in the water. The length on the board keep speed and stability when riding the waves.

This board can be a keeper all the way until you reach intermediate level. Which is catching waves easily and moving up and down the face of a wave without struggle.

THE CHOPPED-LOG MODEL

A board inspired to create Mid-Length board that would still nose ride. It came from a classic California nose-rider longboard outline, inspired by a famous shaper 15 plus years ago. We shrunk the board while keeping the same rocket on a normal longboard.

Description:

The front half of the board is single concave, this then transitions into a deep double concave in the rear third part of the board and transitions into a nice V out the tail. The design of the concave nose adds lift and creates a stable platform, perfect for nose riding. The double concave helps the board remain responsive and easily maneuverable in almost all conditions you ride it in.

This Board is like a Longboard with the heart of a Fish.

Why?

Essentially when you are a beginner the more foam the bette. Longboards are in fact some of the best board to learn how to stand up on, but they are really hard to move around in the water. This board keeps all the volume and stability on a longboard while taking off a 2 feet  to make the board more manageable and easier to carry. This board can be ridden from day-one beginners all the way to experts. Its a beautiful mid-length nose-rider.

THE SLOW-CAL MODEL

Another board specifically design for beginners and intermediate surfers. Best for lightweight day-one beginners, surfers transitioning from a "HUEVOS", or those still learning but looking to take the next step with a board that is easier to move. Don't let the name confuse you, this board goes fast on the slow days and it's designed for speed and stability.

Description:

The "Slow-Cal" packs the foam on, in all the right places. The boards outline is very wide, with lower rocker and hip in the tail. Round nose and a rounded-squash tail. The bottom has is flat with a single concave in the tail. The thickness of the volume is round in the center of the board as we sharpened the rails for better turns.

Why?

This is a beginner to intermediate special, designed to ride fast and stable. It's shorter than your typical beginners board but wide and thick enough to not compensate flotation and paddling. A perfect board for a kid or a lightweight to learn and those learning how to maneuver on a wave. This board will improve your duck-dive, keep you paddling strong, and take your to your next step of the learning stages of surfing.

THE CRAFT-BREW MODEL

This is our best selling board for a reason, by playing with the dimensions of the board it can be ridden from a beginner to a pro surfer. Design by our team rider and board designer Korak Tinoco was looking for an easy to ride board in between a shortboard and a fish. The board is stable, easy to maneuver, and strong paddler. Best for beginner level surfers looking to take the next step and above.

Description:

The outline is nicely round like shortboard, but with a wider nose and lower rocker. We kept the thickness throughout the whole board all the way to the tail block. Bump in the tail with a thumb tail for more of a shortboard performance. Single to deep V bottom, with soft forgiving rails.

Why?

The wide and thick point of this board is in the middle, which is everything a beginner needs. The shortboard like nose and tail make up for a high-performance feel. It's overall our most user-friendly board; to navigate crowds with good for paddling, forgiving but easy to maneuver, and buoyant enough to create its own speed. It's a good board for surfers of all levels.
